Welcome to Caton Gala Homepage!

When

Caton Gala 2010
What a great day we had this year. The weather was fabulous, the turnout likewise. The theme of "Green Planet" was taken up by the schools, preschool and pub in their floats. Especially amazing were the school and preschool who were greenest of all as the 'walking bus'. The theme was carried on in the fancy dress.  The parade was led by the Batala Drummers, followed by the Gala Queen and Attendants.

Applications for Queen and Attendants, along with entries for the picture competition, are open to all children living in Caton / Brookhouse and any children who attend our two local primary schools. For entry forms and application deadlines, please go to the participation and contact details .

This year's Gala Queen Natalie, Attendants Kadie and Charlotte, Page Boys Max and William: you all looked great!

The centre field entertainment included a show by professional BMX riders, the popular Batala Drummers and a flying display by birds of prey. Other attractions include the Rodeo Bull, Gyroscope and Bungee Trampoline.

New this year were the competitions for best cake by the WI and the adult landscape painting and drawing competition.

Where we are

Caton is a small village, near Lancaster, in the North West of the UK. It is nestled in the Lune Valley, with the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, called the 'Bowland Fells' as it's immediate background.

A little further on the horizon are the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District. All within easy travelling distance.

Caton Gala takes place on the Sports Field behind the 'Station' Pub. There is ample free parking available in the village. We are also easily reached by bicycle from Lancaster following the Millennium Park Cycle Route.

What to expect

Caton Gala is a traditional village festival which takes place on the village sport field on the second Saturday of June each year. It is a value for money fun day out for all the family, gate fee is £3.00 per adult and kids go free (under 14). The day starts at 11.30 with the floats leaving the top of Brookhouse village, arriving at the main field in Caton at 12.00 noon.

A whole range of refreshments is usually available including hog roast, ice cream, burgers, hot dogs, teas, cakes, sandwiches and strawberries / cream.

Regular features organised by villagers over the past years have been the miniature gardens competition (open to the top two years at our local primary schools), a cross country race, dog show and children's craft activities tent. Trade features include swing boats and a bouncy castle.
